Support for teaching associations has a long history in the NT! The Northern Territory Joint Council of Professional Teachers’ Association Incorporated was established in 1995 to coordinate the existing work of Territory associations.
In 2015 the Northern Territory Joint Council changed its name to the Professional Teachers’ Association of the Northern Territory (PTANT) The change in name better reflects the professional work of professional teaching associations and their volunteer members.
In addition to providing support to associations, PTANT plays a valuable role in advocating for education across the NT. We nominate one person to the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, and have contributed nominees to the NT Board of Studies. We meet regularly with key stakeholders, including the NT Minister of Education to keep abreast of policies and trends.
PTANT is also a member of the Australian Professional Teachers Association, which advocates for teachers and teaching associations at the federal level.
